Opening a Savings and Deposit Account

imgHaving an account at a bank or post office is convenient because you can have your public utility charges (electricity, water, gas, etc.) automatically withdrawn from your account as well as a cash card made that you can also use at ATMs in convenience stores and elsewhere.

●Opening a Bank Account

Passport, driver's license, residence card and seal are necessary.
When you open a bank account, you can have a cash card. You can withdraw cash, deposit cash, transfer, check your balance, etc.from the ATM.
Besides, please confirm in advance as there are some cases signature (your autograph) is accepted to replace the seal.

●ATMs (automated teller machines)

ATMs are located not only in banks and post offices, but also in convenience stores and other locations. Depending on the time or day, you may be charged a fee for after-hours use.

●Overseas Remittances

You can make an overseas remittance after filling out the necessary information on an overseas remittance application form. Both the applicant and recipient will be charged a fee. You can also send money by having your bank issue a demand draft and sending it yourself.

Part-Time Jobs

International (non-Japanese) students who live in Japan under “college student” or “pre-college student” residence status are permitted to conduct activities other than that permitted by the status of residence previously granted, regardless of the content or place of activities. However, they must obtain permission by submit an application with an “official letter of recommendation” issued by their educational institution. Furthermore, attention is required because there are restrictions regarding the amount of time and place employment.

  • Full-time graduate and undergraduate students (degree seeking; excluding researchers who spend most of their time auditing, or auditors)
    Up to 28 hours per week (up to 8 hours per day during long school vacations) of management of a business that is accompanied by an income or activities from which remuneration is received.
  • Post graduate and auditing students (non-degree seeking)
    Up to 14 hours per week (up to 8 hours per day during long school vacations) of management of a business that is accompanied by an income or activities from which remuneration is received.
  • Study visa students
    Up to 4 hours per day of management of a business that is accompanied by an income or activities from which remuneration is received.

(2)Restrictions on Places of Activity

Engaging in working in the adult entertainment business and such is not permitted.
